The Modena Kart Racing Team was particularly well prepared for the season’s most important event and did not disappoint. The Italian team delivered top-class performances throughout the FIA Karting World Cup in the OK-N Junior class in Italy.
At the Viterbo circuit, Luigi D’Ascoli followed up on his recent Italian Championship victory by taking 2nd place on the world podium. The Parolin-TM Karts sporting the Modena Kart Racing Team colours once again achieved an exceptional overall result, with Elton Hedfors finishing 4th, Ioannis Kolovos securing a top-10 finish ahead of his team-mate Ruzgar Evci, and eight drivers placing within the top 20 in a category featuring 110 competitors.
Strong performances across the board
On Friday, the first official day got off to a perfect start with Luigi D’Ascoli and Troy Ferguson setting the fastest laps in the final Free Practice sessions. With five drivers in the top nine and Ioannis Kolovos topping his Qualifying group, the Modena Kart Racing Team confirmed its place amongst the very best teams in OK-N Junior. The rest of the event proved ruthless, with only three Qualifying Heats per driver. Even the slightest incident had significant consequences for the outcome of the race.
Nevertheless, the Qualifying Heats produced a remarkable overall result: 13 top-five finishes, including five victories by Luigi D’Ascoli, Elton Hedfors, Troy Ferguson, Ruzgar Evci, Fabian Mauro Nario, Ioannis Kolovos, Radu Basescu Pricop and Enzo Digennaro. All the other drivers in the team enjoyed excellent moments: Raffaele Mini finished P6 in one heat, Jurgens Declan P7, Grayson Walcott, Danila Verba and Vladimir Skorobagach P8, Ruvan Maritz P10 and Tommaso Corsi P11.
Nine drivers qualified for the Final
Following D’Ascoli’s victory in the Super Heat, Hedfors’ 2nd place and Ferguson’s 5th, the Modena Kart Racing Team’s Parolin-TM karts continued to shine at the front of the field, delivering satisfaction across the board and culminating in Luigi D’Ascoli’s magnificent 2nd place in the World Cup. It was initially Troy Ferguson, starting 12th, who crossed the finish line in that position, before being penalised.

Here are the results of the Final:
Runner-up: Luigi D’Ascoli
P4 Elton Hedfors
P10 Ioannis Kolovos (+8)
P11 Ruzgar Evci (+6)
P13 Troy Ferguson (fastest lap)
P16 Fabian Mauro Nario (+7)
P18 Grayson Walcott (+16)
P19 Raffaele Mini (+17)
P29 Radu Basescu Pricop (+3)
Analysis by Gabriele Finocchi, team principal of Modena Kart
“It was an intense weekend, packed with hard work and strong emotions. A year on from our World Cup success with Gioele Girardello, several of our drivers had the potential to win. Luigi D’Ascoli put in a flawless race and fully deserves this World podium finish. Troy Ferguson was the fastest on track in the Final, but unfortunately his retirement in one of the Qualifying Heats didn’t work in his favour. In addition, he was handed a penalty in the Final. Without it, the team would have finished 2nd and 3rd. Ioannis Kolovos lapped within the same tenth of a second as the winner, but he too had to retire from a heat and fight his way back through the field. Ruzgar Evci was also very competitive, as were many of our other drivers. We have a fantastic team and I am very proud of what Modena Kart Racing Team achieved in Viterbo. I would truly like to thank Marco Parolin, Filippo Flenghi, Simone Catenacci, and Marco Malverti for their collaboration during this World Cup.”
A comment from Alessandro Palloni, team manager at Modena Kart
“The outcome of this FIA Karting World Cup is extremely positive. Thanks to the efforts of the entire technical staff and the engine supplier, our drivers were consistently at the front, with our Parolin-TM Karts performing exceptionally well. We must congratulate all our Juniors on their performances. 1st place in 2025, 2nd this year, it’s incredible. This consistency in results at every round is our great strength. Well done also to our OK-N driver Ates Birinci. He was 24th out of 138 in Qualifying, before finishing the heats in 4th and 3rd place. It’s a shame that two incidents prevented him from achieving a better result.”
