This weekend, the Rotax Winter Cup will start in Campillos, Spain. The event returns after a long break to the Rotax calendar in Europe. In the competition we will see 9 Polish drivers and, among others, Sławomir Murański, who will go for the first time after a serious injury.
Nine Polish drivers are on the start lists of the Rotax Winter Cup, which returns this weekend after a three-year break. 231 drivers from around the world will take part in the Spanish Campillos event. In the action we will see not only Europeans, but also drivers from Japan, South Africa, Egypt and the Philippines. The Rotax Winter Cup is the event that opens the season of this series in Europe.
The Polish DD2 Masters champion and the winner of seven Polish cups Sławomir Murański returns to the races after a break of over three months. The driver of the 46 Team suffered a serious injury in the last Grand Finals, which excluded him from the world event and training for several weeks. Murański, who was the first Pole to win the Rotax Winter Cup twice, will be the black horse of the competition. 21 competitors with Belgian Christoph Adams are his rivals. Driver from Wrocław is the only Pole to take part in DD2 Masters.
In the junior category we will see three Polish drivers. These are two rookies in the Rotax Winter Cup, David Aulejtner and Alaxander Mikos from the team Wyrzykowski Motor-sport and one of the favorites for the podium Oliwier Pyłka from the British Dan Holland Racing. For David and Alex it will be the first contact with the Winter Cup competition in Spain, for Oliwier an attempt to reach the next podium this season. A driver from Warsaw has already stood on the second and third ranks this year during winter events in the UK and a week ago …in Spain.
Among the drivers of the senior Rotax Max category we will see Karol Kręt. It will be Karol’s debut in the British titled Strawberry Racing team, but also a debut in the Winter Cup. Last year’s runner-up in this category in polish Rotax series will compete with almost 80 drivers of the category now, including the stars Luca Leistra from Belgium or the British Mark Kimber or Dean MacDonald. The last two will appear in Campillos in the …Strawberry.
We will observe as many as four Poles in the DD2 Max category. In addition to the experienced Kacper Bielecki from 46Team, who already has a podium in Winter Cup (2017), three drivers from Marek Wyrzykowski’s team will start. This is Stig Righult, Kacper Siemiątkowski and Sebastian Janczewski. In DD-two we will see „only” 40 drivers. Will will observe the best European drivers this category: Finns Ville Villieinen, Juuso Pantilla, Belgians Xander Przybylak, Glenn Van Parijs or Austrians Daniel Machacek and Manuel Tenschert. We count on the freshness of Poles and the experience of Kacper Bielecki.
The Rotax Winter Cup is the event that begins the European season of Rotax drivers. Poles stood on the podium five times, and the only one to win was Sławomir Murański – twice (DD2 Masters 2016, 2017). An interesting fact is that all our podiums in the Winter Cup were noted in the DD2 category. The first driver from Poland on the podium was Tomasz Krzemiński, who stood in third place in the inaugural event 10 years ago. In 2016, Sławomir Murański additionally came 3rd in DD2 Max, and a year later Kacper Bielecki took the same position.
