In this season, the famous Memorial Andrea Margutti Trophy will take place for the 31st time. This is an opportunity to sum up 30 years of the event. In the entire history of the event, only two Poles stood on the podium, Robert Kubica (1999) and David Liwinski (2019).
Andrea Margutti Trophy have played the 30th editions. In the 2020 season, the event will enter the fourth decade of its history that began in 1990. The event will take place as usual at the South Garda Karting in Lonato. Start on February 27th. Traditionally, Parma Motorsport will take care of the organization. Lists will be open in just over two weeks, on February 3rd.
The event is permanently entered on the calendar of the FIA Karting and this year will include competition in categories Mini 60 with technical regulations of FIA Karting, OK-Junior, KZ2, Iame X30 Senior and, for the first time this year, X30 Junior.
In the whole history of Trofeo Andrea Margutti only two Poles stood on the podium of this event. It was Robert Kubica, who in 1999 outclassed his rivals in the Junior ICA category, ahead of among others, Nico Rosbeg and Lewis Hamilton.
The Kubica feat was to be repeated by David Liwiński, who took second place in the OK category in last year’s jubilee event. The Pole in the whole event in Lonato was overtaken by only one driver! He was Italian Leonardo Bertini Colla, who was ahead of Liwiński in the final race.
David’s luck prove that his go-kart in the final race has failed. The Pole lost only one position to the Italian driver due to the huge advantage he had in the final. Ultimately, he took second place and went down in the history of Polish karting and Italian events.
Trofeo winners Andrea Margutti were drivers such as Giancarlo Fisichella, Alessandro Manetti, Sauro Cesetti, Ben Hanley, Marco Ardigo, Danil Kvyat, Alessio Lorandi, Davide Fore and the previously mentioned Robert Kubica. The event is a memorial of Andrea Margutti, born in Rome, who died in October 1989 during the Trofeo delle Industrie competition at the Italian Parma track.
During training, his go-kart overturned, causing the death of a nearly fifteen-year-old player. A few days earlier, Margutti took part in the Karting World Championships in Zaragoza, Spain. He was considered a promising star of Italian and international karting, and at the same time he was a nice and easy-going boy. A few months after Andrea’s death, on the initiative of his parents and Parma track manager Umberto Pellegrini, the first race of his memory took place, which is successfully organized to this day.
It is worth mentioning that Parma Motorsport, which has been organizing the memorial from the very beginning, is also the organizer of another famous Italian event Trofeo delle Industrie, during which young Andrea died. „Industria” has been played for almost half a century.
